Guest Artist Margaret Robertson
BIOGRAPHY
Marg is a long-time resident of the Shuswap. She was born in rural Saskatchewan but has lived most of her life close to Salmon Arm, BC. Being an artist has been her earliest aspiration. At 15 she knew this would be her career. Art seemed to be the icing on her cake of life! She joined the Sketch and Paint Club in Salmon Arm in its beginning years. College courses in fine arts and workshops with contemporary artists fueled her enthusiasm. She became an active member of the Federation of Canadian Artists, where she shows her work in the Vancouver, North Okanagan, and Thompson Nicola Shuswap chapters.
Marg works primarily in acrylics but also uses oils, pastels, graphite, watercolor and mixed media. She is keenly interested in human and equine figures, nature, wildlife, and a touch of fantasy. Her art is more of an emotional response than totally representational rendering. Her style is varied and intentionally not pinned down to one technique, so perhaps abstraction to realism.
ARTIST STATEMENT
My inspirations come from my muse; my daughter, her pets, and the wildlife and animals I see on my walks in the woods. I might start a painting with a brush and end up with a palette knife. Acrylics afford me a lot of diversity in technique. Each painting is an exercise in discovery! I strive to portray the emotion that sparked my excitement for the subject.
