Cynthia Langford

I was born in northern Ontario and was raised in the small town of Schreiber

located on the beautiful shores of Lake Superior. I am Anishinaabe (Ojibway) from Flying Post First Nations Treaty Nine. As a child growing up I learned to appreciate and respect the wilderness and beauty around me. Most people know me as a landscape artist. I have been a member of the Federation of Canadian Artists since 2014 and have shown my art In local galleries and exhibitions. It is only after the awakening from Truth and Reconciliation that I embarked on this journey to reclaim my heritage and learn traditional teachings, skills and the ways of the Anishinaabe people. I have traded my paint brush for a beading needle ( I still paint a bit !)and using this new art skill I am creating a beaded feather collection of framed art on sculptured fabric canvas and beadwork to share stories and bring conversations and awareness about the impact of colonialism and how we can learn and recapture some of the lost heritage that many of us have endured. I currently live in Kamloops and honoured to live on the lands of the Secwepemc First Nations. Many of my inspirations have come from theses lands and rivers that are my new home. I am so happy to be back at the Courtyard Gallery as a guest artist and share my new work . Please check out my web page to view all my current art.
