Guest Artist for August

Our guest artist for the month of August is Maureen Howard. Her work is an exploration of the natural world, often abstracted and deeply influenced by the ever-changing beauty of the landscape. Living by Shuswap Lake in British Columbia, it is not surprising that water is a recurring theme and she is captivated by the effects of light and its reflection. Maureen's painting techniques involve both acrylic paints and oil paints. The majority of her paintings are loosely based on memories, sketches, and photos of the Okanagan and Kootenays. When she begins a painting, she focuses on what drew her initially to the place. Be it a feeling or a colour or a pattern, she tries to convey it using spontaneous marks or collage pieces along with transparent colour glazes that create depth and movement.
Maureen is represented by Studio Connections Gallery in Nakusp and is an active member of the Salmon Arm Master Minds, a group of women interested in supporting each other’s art journey. You can find more about her on Facebook or Instagram
